I have never been bothered to go and get a present when my boys go to a party. Have always just stuck a tenner in a card as its easy, maybe a score for their best mates.
If anyone set a minimal amount their kid would just get an empty card, cheeky cunts.

I never buy things off lists or give 'suggested amounts' or any such crap. Never had lists when I was young either, and thought children that did were a bit demanding and rude. You buy somebody a thoughtful present, or you don't. It's not supposed to be a ruthlessly efficient commercial enterprise. For a big span of younger childhood a selection of Playdoh things (cars, animals...) always goes down well and it's fine because it isn't your carpet it'll get trodden into. After that Lego. Then alcohol.

My sister distributes present lists for her kids at birthdays and xmas. I just make sure i buy something not on the list.
